雖然那些只是流言蜚語，卻強大到能毀了一個人
妳開始擔心它何時來襲、從哪裡出現？

就算穿了兩件毛衣，泰勒還是會像這樣不時打冷顫
而且讓她覺得奇怪的是，自己明明是在比佛利山的家，卻總是感覺的到不知哪裡跑來的寒冷....
「應該只是門沒關好而已...」 泰勒略帶睡意的咕噥著，並看了一下床頭的時鐘：早上10點13分
她像是突然意識到了甚麼似的，以一種前所未有的靈活度從床上跳下
然後用跑百米的速度飛奔到玄關前，將大門完全打開

*歌曲具體創作時間未知，推測大約在2014年1月下旬，可能是在Blank Space跟Welcome to New York之間。
*歌名靈感來自於"new romanticism "一詞，為在80年代流行的一種古典音樂風格，其誕生原因正是因為"先鋒派"音樂作品太過"猖獗"，導致聽眾大幅流失，於是音樂家們決定開始將重點擺在旋律、調性上，做法是將舊有作品的元素拆解重組成全新樣貌，，藉此讓其變得"平易近人"，而泰勒所賦予1989的意義，除了是80年代音樂融合現代元素以創作出新的作品，並正式宣告轉戰流行外(受眾大幅增加)，同時也有"捨棄過往有舊情、重新擁抱全新愛情"的象徵在。
*第一段主歌中scarlet letter一詞在Love Story中也有出現，來自於19世紀浪漫主義作家Nathaniel Hawthorne的著名作品《The Scarlet Letter》，意指"禁忌"、"有罪"的情感關係。
*副歌歌詞"Cause baby I could build a castle out of all the brick they threw at me"正好呼應了新專名稱Reputation，不知是有意是無意的。
